Social Media feeds are under assault by moving pictures. In recent months, both Twitter and Facebook have enabled auto-play videos feature; every time a video enters your Facebook Timeline or News Feed, it automatically starts playing. By default, videos are set to autoplay in Facebook.
Facebook says the videos that automatically play in your News Feed make for “an easier way to watch,” but it’s not likely you want to every video in your stream coming to life.
At best, it’s an annoyance that drains through your mobile data. At worst, the “feature” forces you to watch videos of things you’d typically shy away from. Now you might be thinking how do I stop videos from playing automatically in my Facebook News Feed?
Luckily, you can disable auto-play videos in Facebook as well as on Twitter with only a few simple tweaks in your settings. Here’s how.
How to Disable Auto-Play Videos on Facebook for Desktop
You can turn Facebook’s video auto-play settings on or off. Disabling Facebook’s auto-play video is just as easy. Here’s how to stop videos from playing automatically on your computer:
Step 1: Click on the down arrow icon at the top-right of your Facebook homepage.
Step 2: Scroll down the menu, and click Settings.
Step 3: Click on Videos from the list of options on the left-hand side.
Step 4: Navigate to the Auto-Play Videos option under Video Settings.
Step 5: Set the “Auto-Play Videos” to Off from Default using drop-down menu. That’s it.
