Things to Know about Using the Google Calendar

If you have a Gmail account, you automatically have access to the Google calendar. The calendar offers you an easy way to keep track of your appointments and obligations. Regardless of whether you’re flying to a far-off destination for an important meeting or scheduling a tournament at a ZAR online casino at you can use your calendar to keep your life in order.

Some of the tools that the calendar offers include:

Schedule Events

The scheduling tool is probably the most popular tool in the Google calendar. To schedule an activity or event you just click on the calendar date to add details of your event and note the time. The activity will automatically be placed in the time slot noted (if you want to put an event at the top of the day’s schedule, you will either need to eliminate the time or write it in a way in which the program won’t identify it – for instance, instead of writing 1:00p.m. you’ll write oneoclockintheafternoon).

Once the event has been created you can click on “Invite” to invite guests. The invitation will be sent to invited guests who can then RSVP, giving you the opportunity to track which of your guests will be attending, which might attend and which will not join your event.

You can add as many details of the event to the invitation as you want as well as attachments and video conferencing details. So, for instance, if the event involves an online meeting, you can add the video conference link to the invitation which will allow your attendees to have the link handy when the event takes place.

You can edit events, create multi-day events or set the event to occur weekly or monthly. In this way, you won’t be required to create a new event on the calendar for each consecutive week or month that the event is set to take place.

You can click on the “reminder” button to set a reminder. You can set as many reminders as you want for as long as you want. If you want a reminder to go off once a day for the week prior to the event, configure the reminder tool to send you reminders in that way.

Reminders can be sent as email notifications or as pop-ups.

Multiple Calendars

You can create multiple calendars to better organize your life. For instance, you might want to create one calendar for your private life, which you don’t share with anyone, and a second calendar for your work life which you share with your co-workers.

The calendars can be color-coded to help you see what’s going on in your life at a moment’s notice.

You can get an HTML link to your calendar that you can share with people.  This gives you the opportunity to share your calendar with specific people including with people who don’t have a Google account. You can either share the HTML link with specific people or add email addresses to the calendar settings to ensure that the people who are supposed to see the calendar will be able to do so.

You can also add someone else’s calendar to your calendar if they share their calendar with you. That allows you, for example, to see when a colleague is free.

Calendars can also be set to be “public” or to be imported or exported. If, for instance, you have a business that accepts reservations and you want to have your calendar visible on your website so potential clients can see whether or not you have an opening on a specific day or at a specific time, you can make your calendar visible on your site to enable customers to plan out their bookings.

Notes and Tasks

Google Calendar interfaces with Google Keep and Google Tasks so you can keep track of your notes and tasks right on your calendar. The To Do list in Google Tasks can be integrated into your calendar so you can read the tasks that you’ve already added and add, edit or delete tasks.

The Find button gives you quick access to all of your scheduled events, both those that are in the future and those that have passed. You can put a search word or phrase into the search bar at the top of the calendar and you will immediately be able to see all events that include that term.

World Clock, Birthdays and Holidays

The Google World clock is located in the sidebar. It shows the current time in your locale as well as the current time in any other area of the world.

You can also add holidays to your calendar – add the type of holidays that you want (a specific national group, a specific religious group, etc) and the holidays will automatically appear in the color code that you choose.

You can manually add birthdays or set the settings so that the birthdays of your contracts will appear in your calendar.

In short, extremely useful tools!
